Brewing

$1,500.00

I am infatuated with the sky. I’m daily astonished that it exists. And not only does it exist, but it changes moment by moment. The movement of the sky, the colors of the atmosphere, the light warming the clouds, changing their color—it’s almost too much for me to take in. You’ll find many of my paintings give the sky pride of place, because the sky is not an innocent bystander in landscape paintinng for me. It is, many times, the main event. For this piece, it is the main event.

I’ve seen spectacular sunsets in Ashville. I’ve held my breath watching storms brew over the mountains. I’ve hiked in those very storms. For me, the beauty of painting landscapes comes from our attempts as artists to capture split seconds of time and motion upon the canvas. Sometimes, I can’t paint fast enough and sometimes the rush of the memory of a brewing storm will move me to tears.

Like storms we all of us brew with passion and desire, pain and heartache, joy and delight. When we take the time to explore the wilds, we find ourselves in the tumult of nature. Comfort abounds in this discovery, for it is not only a connection with the natural world, it is a transcendent revealing of the Creator—we are all of known in the storms.
